Okay, the Oscar's are tonight and I still have to reveal my complete award predictions. I'm maintaining all of my predictions for the top 8. Tonight seems to be a clear head-to-head race between The Aviator and Million Dollar Baby, and I could easily see The Aviator take Picture and Director; in fact, I think it has more of a chance than some other people seem to think. But that doesn't change the fact that I'm officially predicting Million Dollar Baby - it has the performances, the story, the slight controversy, the box office, and the reviews. The one thing it doesn't have - that the Aviator does - is the epic scope.
I'm listing an "alternate" for each major award, for the film that has the biggest chance to win, in my opinion, if my prediction doesn't. But if you think I'm just covering my bases, make no mistake: if the alternate is what wins, then my prediction was wrong.
I'm also including a list of my personal opinions on what should win, out of the five nominees. This is an extraordinarily difficult task - I liked The Aviator and Million Dollar Baby almost equally, for example - so I'm giving you my top 2 choices in each major category.
