Sorry for the lack of updates over Christmas. Relaxing with my family and all that - although I managed to crank out a few reviews:Pictured, of course, is a shot from There Will Be Blood, which features another awesome performance from Daniel Day-Lewis: "I can't keep doing this on my own. With these ....... [sneer] people ......" Oh, and I did two spotlights:
As always, the Christmas season was crowded this year, and not everyone survived. Walk Hard flopped badly - a crappy ending for an otherwise great year for Judd Apatow (writer/director of Knocked Up, producer of Superbad, and co-writer of Walk Hard). Too bad, because while it wasn't flat-out hilarious, it was pretty funny. Sweeney Todd also underperformed, but I feel less bad about that; the flick just didn't hit me whatsoever.
On the other hand, Alvin and the Chipmunks did ridiculous business. Who knew? National Treasure 2 and I Am Legend are also cleaning up, as expected, although I'm quite heartened to see Juno doing so well. It expanded to over 1,000 theaters just yesterday, and last week it still managed to crack the box office's top five.
Next thing of note you'll be seeing from me is another Oscar spiel and my Top 10 Movies of 2007 list. And yeah, Juno will be on it, although it's not my #1; if you've been paying close attention you'll probably be able to figure out what is.
